Andrea and I worked as second grade teachers in a low social economic school, full of children needing much support, love, and attention.  Andrea used to say “I have a class this year.” We knew that expression meant they were a rough bunch.  It wasn’t unlikely at our school.  One could assume it was a complaint, but she had so much compassion and empathy for her kids, she went above and beyond for them. She treated them with the upmost care and love, she’d buy them gifts on every holiday, made Mother’s Day cards for them to have something to give, and offer them kindness. Her heart was so giving and her smile would light up a room…I wish I could gaze upon her smile one more time.
